Fengxian Central Hospital - Branch of Shanghai 6th People's Hospital

Founded in 1945, Fengxian Central Hospital is located in the south of Shanghai and is a Level 2 Grade A comprehensive hospital serving 1.5 million local residents. It was selected by the Municipal Government for a major medical resource re-organizing program (named 5-3-1) whose goal is to upgrade the hospital to Level 3 (the highest level in hospital grading in China) with an investment of one billion RMB. The new facility (to be completed in 2012) will be 1 million square feet, located on approximately 30 acres and includes 1,000 approved beds. The hospital currently has 1400 clinicians and support staff, including 140 senior title doctors, 120 doctors with master’s degree or Ph.D., and 35 doctors qualified for mentoring master’s degree or Ph.D. graduate students. Fengxian Central Hospital has a total of 33 clinical departments, including 12 Fengxian District key disciplines and eight hospital key disciplines. The district key medical specialties include orthopedic surgery, cardiology, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, critical care, endocrinology, ophthalmology, urology, minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and brain disease. The Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Disease of Southern Medical University and the Institute of Neurological Disease of Anhui University Science & Technology are located at Fengxian Central Hospital.
Fengxian Central Hospital has developed rapidly in many areas over the past few years. The hospital has established a national continuing medical education program and published numerous research papers on international journals; more than 30 research projects have been funded by national or municipal/provincial funds with a total funding of 1.3 million RMB. Fengixan Central Hospital has received many patents and awards for innovative medical research and development. More than 20 departments are entitled to grant master's degree or Ph.D., and about 30 students are recruited in the graduate programs.
Fengxian Hospital is equipped with sophisticated medical instruments and devices such as MRI, spiral CT, ECT, DSA, and high-pressure oxygen chambers, with a total asset value of 200 million RMB. The hospital annually serves 1.1 million outpatients and emergency patients, discharges 40,000 hospitalized patients, and conducts 15,300 surgical operations. The hospital is strictly adhering to patient-oriented service guideline and takes every opportunity to expand and upgrade in an effort to better serve patients by demonstrating advanced medical excellence at the highest level of quality.
The hospital recently has initiated programs for research collaborations and clinician exchanges with hospitals and institutions in the United States and other western countries in order to advance research and improve medical care aiming at the top standards in the world.
